The mangrove forest of Baja California I travelled through in March of 2025 was such a place. As the world was starting to change following a decisive election, I was witnessing a landcape that suddenly seemed symbolic. The mangroves are sanctuaries for birds and fish and microbiota. I saw a myriad of strategies for survival in tough and fluctuating environments, for expelling what is harmful. So much to learn from waters and their ways.
