On February 3, 2025, Darby Saxbe, Professor at USC posted on Threads a list of hundreds of keywords that can cause a grant to be pulled by the National Science Foundation in the USA. This image reflects that censorship- the attack on not merely academic freedom, but also on the ability to pursue meaningful research in science, the social sciences, and humanities. What does this mean for climate research? for medical research? for addressing serious challenges in equity and diversity, which is under full attack? How do we protect the work that has been and is currently being pursued. I want to believe that this nightmare will end.
